The goal of continuity planning is to reduce or eliminate the impacts of disruptions.
Disruptions of all kinds can happen at any time. A disruption is any event that may inhibit the normal operations of the university—such as a winter storm, pandemic, natural disaster, or widespread utility outage. Some examples of recent large-scale disruptions to UNT include Winter Storm Uri (2021) and the COVID-19 Pandemic (2020). Disruptions may also occur on a smaller scale, such as a localized flood, building construction, equipment maintenance, or a flu outbreak amongst a team.
Continuity planning involves identifying your unit’s critical functions, key resources, and information technology tools and planning for how you would protect those functions during a disruption.
